About The Position

Technical Art Director is responsible for developing the capabilities of the technical art teams in the studio, keeping a pulse on the evolving needs of the business, and suggesting modifications to the company offering to address the changing needs.

Technical Art Director is accountable for the technical art teams’ quality of service, production process and output. Helps maintain the technical standards of art production excellence, timeliness, and profitability of art projects. Establish strong relationships with clients and business development team and build trust in technical art department capabilities and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Art teams’ development (~30% of time):


Document and share across all studios art production processes and best practices.

Develop uniform training strategy for all studios to maintain and build up competitive skill sets and advantages.

Identify unique strengths of studios and support of corresponding training activities.

  • Technical Excellence of Art Teams (~30% of time):


Identify art team needs for tools and process support.

Consult/Support/Work with R&D team as Main POC for Art teams.

Identify capacity and competence gaps between customers’ needs and existing resources availability. Find solutions.

Participate to the development of studios’ specialization and recruitment strategy. Monitor the execution.

Work with CTG to standardize tech pipelines, organize cross studio sharing, guilds etc.

Support inter-studio collaboration.

  • Key projects’ execution (~20% of time):


Serve as the ultimate escalation point for clients.

Supervise the overall process and way of working of carrying out projects. Adapt the process based on evolving customers’ needs, conditions or issues that may arise.

Track deadlines, deliverables, and resources throughout projects’ life cycle.

Ensure and maintain client satisfaction.

  • Business development (~20% of time):


Meet with potential customers.

Prepare presentations to evangelize department offering to clients.

Consult and support Marketing team. Manage technical art portfolio.

Assist/Support Client Success Managers with technical aspects of art projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years as a professional technical artist and experienced in the development of tool kit in video games industry and have participated in several productions as a Technical Artist, Associate technical art director or technical art director.
  • At least 2 years' experience leading a team of 10 technical artists, experience as a lead of artists through a creation process.
  • Have developed a vision and a strong expertise in graphic production methods and pipeline for AAA and others project.
  • Familiar with the technologies used in modern games (PBR, data, streaming, etc.).
  • Master the graphics software of the industry (3DS Max, Substance, Photoshop, Blender, etc.).
  • Have a good knowledge of at least one programming language: scripting (Python, MaxScript, C#).
  • Experience working in shading/lighting/look development for on one or more shipped game titles.
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating technical art experience in rendering, shading, lighting, post processing and look development.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills allow to exchange effectively on both artistic and technical issues.
