React Developer with some full stack experience

In our work at Watch Me Think we are interested in pushing the bounds of what can be done with videos: what’s inside them, how you understand them - the wealth of multidimensional information that they contain, yet is locked-in - how to analyse that information coherently and with confidence - and how they can be maximally used: sliced, diced, presented, through our online application.

That’s why we are looking for a React Developer with some full stack experience, who can fit in with, amplify and add to a company that doesn’t do things by the book, just the comic. Hence the ‘not-your-normal’ job title.

We offer profit share on a very egalitarian model - seniority doesn’t count - the Chief Cup of Tea Maker gets the same profit share as the Head of a national office.

We also offer the usual yadda yadda:

  • Flat, equal-voice working, from anywhere;
  • Performance measured on outputs not hours inputted: make yourself more efficient, write code that doesn’t break = more time for yourself to go off and [insert here what you’d rather be doing in an ideal world];
  • A Watch Me Play now and again (where the entire company goes off to places like Cape Town, San Diego, Tuscany for a week),
  • Unlimited holidays - again it’s all about outputs, not a calendar.
  • And of course a decent wage of up to GBP 50 to 60k

What you know

·  Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

·  Deep understanding of React, including hooks, state management (using Context API, Redux, or similar libraries), component lifecycle, and performance optimization. Future plans are to move to NextJS

. Strong experience with front-end tooling for the development and distribution of the application

·  Experience with GIT and GitHub.

·  Familiarity with AWS (or similar cloud providers).

·  Familiarity with Java, not your strength but are able to get around

. Familiarity with REST service development.

. Comprehensive understanding of web application architecture, including front-end, back-end, databases, application layering, and deployment strategies

  • You’d possibly have

· (optional) Experience with Next.js or similar frameworks

.    (optional) Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

.   (optional) Understanding or at least interest in AI, especially NLP.

What you’d do

You’d join a small geographically dispersed dev team (Switzerland, Italy, India, UK), at an equal level, whose group responsibility is to maintain and develop the back-end and front-end of new functionalities for the video management and analysis platform used by both our clients and internal staff.

You will spearhead our React development, choosing technologies and establishing or improving coding patterns, guide long-term project architecture and best practices, including a planned transition to Next.js or similar technologies

You will also contribute to back-end development, particularly Java-based REST services.

Work would be a combination of maintenance, improving existing features, and occasional greenfield projects.

What we are

We take our work seriously but we don’t believe it’s the most important thing in the world. We love intelligent, inquisitive, quirky, rip-taking folks who like a good laugh and don’t suffer fools.

We’ve been in business just over 12 years now. We have been consistently making profits (important for that profit share). And we only employ good eggs.

You’ll also, if you wish, get to randomly pick anyone in the company to ask them what it’s honestly like to work for Watch Me Think (check out watchmethink.com/about)

Moolah

As mentioned, it’s up to GBP 50 to 60k (or equivalent in your local currency), plus the profit share, which is something we can tell you more about when we chat.

Location

It can be anywhere in the world if you’re the right person. Though we have a preference for European based just so we can meet up more often and chat in the same time zones :-) Just a note that if it you wished to be based outside of the UK then you have to be employed as a consultant, but keeping all the benefits.
