Job Description

Become a member of Hapag-Lloyd IT Team “Central Messaging Platform” located in Gdansk. The team's focus will be on providing a central event and message HUB based on a Kafka solution. This solution will become the internal messaging backbone of the Hapag-Lloyd Freight Information System (FIS).

You will work together with colleagues in the IT in Gdansk, Hamburg and Chennai. The FIS development Teams in Hamburg and Gdansk are currently considerably ramping up based on our mission to migrate the FIS application from the mainframe onto a modern cloud platform.

The "Freight Information System" is today and in the future the core application to manage the business of Hapag-Lloyd worldwide.

Responsibilities

The Central Messaging Platform team is responsible for setting up and operating a central event and messaging platform based on Kafka.

Central Messaging Platform

  • Design and implement, as part of a team of experts, a robust and scalable Central Messaging Platform aligned with our enterprise architecture to meet the organization's evolving needs.


Providing the runtime environment

  • Implementation and administration of a corresponding cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Deploy and manage supporting functionality for a Kafka solution (e.g. Kafka-tools, schema registry, …).
  • Implementation and integration of deployment strategies (e.g. development of CI/CD pipelines)


Operation of the messaging solution

  • Implement resilience and disaster recovery strategies and capabilities.
  • Deployment or development of solutions for comprehensive monitoring.
  • Operation and optimization of the Platform and the underlying infrastructure.
  • Handling incidents and problems at an expert level to guarantee stable operation.


Providing Guidance for Users and Support-Teams

  • Provide and implement comprehensive tools and documentation for supporting teams.
  • Consultation and collaboration with FIS product teams on best-practice in use and seamless integration of the platform.

Qualifications

In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in implementing and operating Apache Kafka solution at an enterprise level.

  • Experience in building and managing a suitable cloud environment, e.g. B. AWS EC2, Amazon MSK or a possible SaaS solution.
  • Strong background in implementing and maintaining Kafka solutions on a scalable cloud infrastructure, including automation and orchestration.
  • Knowledge and experience in using relevant strategies related to Apache Kafka such as Kafka-UI or Schema Registry.
  • Experience in implementing monitoring and observability solutions e.g., Grafana, …
  • Willingness to manage and operate Kafka clusters in a production environment 24/7.
