Working closely with members of the I.T. and Technical Services (ITS), and more widely with technical users across EMBL-EBI, the HPC Engineer will play an active part in the design, deployment and operation of the substantial HPC clusters and computational resources in place to support the processing of the large data flows fundamental to EMBL-EBI activities. Day to day the HPC Engineer will work with the HPC sub-team, members of the ITS and HPC users.
Your Role
Working as part of the HPC team, under the direction of the HPC Lead the HPC Engineer will:
- Ensure the day-to-day operation, reliability, and integrity of EMBL-EBI’s HPC clusters and computational resources, including schedulers, software, hardware and networking
- Recommend, design and deploy future EMBL-EBI HPC clusters and infrastructure, including both logical configuration and physical racking and cabling
- Automate the setup and configuration of clusters, using tools such as Ansible
- Maintain and update reporting interfaces to deliver monitoring and accounting of the infrastructure
- Support users and investigate and resolve complex issues where in-depth evaluation of various technical and non-technical factors is required
- Build positive relationships, communicating openly and professionally within the team and with stakeholders from the ITS and wider EMBL-EBI community
- Produce high quality documentation to support work done, and work actively to share knowledge within the team

You Have
- BS in Compute Science or Engineering discipline
- Proficiency in Linux Systems (Redhat, Debian)
- Strong Network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- 2 years experience in HPC Cluster operations and management
- Experience in Network Concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Experience using Linux administration skills, ideally with Red Hat certification or Debian
- Automation frameworks, including Ansible
- Experience in at least one programming language
- Good interpersonal skills and strong written English ability
