About The Role
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is looking to appoint an apprentice workshop and laboratory technician on a three-year apprenticeship. The apprentice will undertake hands on training in the department’s various workshops and laboratories. In addition, the apprentice will undertake studies at the City of Bath College on a variable day release basis for three years leading to a recognised, nationally accredited NVQ qualification.
Within this role, you will work as part of a team of multi skilled technicians providing technical support to teaching and research in the department.
Your Responsibilities And Training Will Include
- The application and use of a wide range of machine tools including, but not restricted to, conventional turning, milling, grinding and drilling
- Fitting and assembly skills including the use of hand tools and marking out
- Welding, fabrication, Laser/Plasma Cutting and 3D printing processes
- Sheet metalwork including shearing, folding etc
- Measurement and inspection techniques using a variety of metrology equipment
- Use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) using proprietary software packages

About You
Our ideal candidate will have experience of applying and adhering to basic health and safety instructions, as well as working reliably and efficiently with minimal supervision. You should be able to follow and understand technical methods and techniques in order to complete tasks.
In addition, you must be able to demonstrate an interest in mechanical and or general engineering disciplines either by evidence of previous experience or hobby interests.

Salary: £21,543 Appointments at Grade 2 will receive an additional pensionable supplement to ensure a minimum hourly pay equivalent to £12.00 in line with Voluntary Living Wage.
