About your teams
MOIA has many great teams and is organized in business units that are themselves composed of domains. As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for one domain and the four to six technical teams within it. You pair with the Product- and, where applicable, Design-Directors to support the teams in finding the right balance between technical excellence, maintaining a high customer focus and reliably delivering product increments.
The role includes technical leadership as well as people management. Besides the work inside your domain and your unit, you are part of the overarching technical leadership team with all the engineering Directors, the Chapter Leads, Technical Leads, and the CTO.
The engineering teams use modern languages (e.g., Kotlin, TypeScript, Scala, Rust, Golang, Swift, Dart) in combination with cloud services (e.g., AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Kinesis, RDS and Kubernetes) and are responsible for the discovery of what product increment to deliver next, as well as the full software lifecycle, including testing and operating the services ("you build it, you run it").
What you will do
- Proactively Collaborate: Engage with multiple distributed teams within your business unit to ensure alignment and synergy.
- Influence Product Roadmap: Work closely with the Product Director to shape and influence the product roadmap, ensuring it aligns with company goals and customer needs.
- Lead with Servant Leadership: Guide and inspire world-class engineering teams using a servant leadership approach, fostering a supportive and empowering environment.
- Empower Teams: Support a bottom-up tech culture, empowering your teams to take ownership and responsibility for their work.
- Assure Quality: Ensure the systems owned by your teams meet the highest quality standards, including code reviews, testing, and validation processes across team boundaries. Your teams are set up cross functional including a Quality Specialist.
- Conduct Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them effectively.
- Strategic Contribution: Partner with peers across product, tech, and design to contribute to the overall company strategy, and effectively communicate this strategy to teams and stakeholders at various levels.
- Culture Development: Play an active role in shaping and nurturing the MOIA tech culture, ensuring it remains innovative and inclusive.
- Support Cross-Unit Projects: Contribute to cross-unit autonomous driving and licensing projects, leveraging your expertise to drive success.
- Drive Architecture: Develop and lead Staff-Level roles (Architect, Tech Lead, ..) to drive the development of our Architecture (Mobile, Cloud, Authentication, Customer Tenancy) to enable our services to be offered to various cities, ensuring scalability and reliability.
What will help you to fulfill your role
