Senior Water Management Lead Engineer

We are seeking a senior Water Management Lead Engineer to oversee and advance our remote irrigation monitoring and water management services. This is a remote office-based position designed for an experienced irrigation professional who thrives in data analysis, system optimization, and technical leadership.

This role leads the remote management of commercial, agricultural, golf, and municipal irrigation systems using central control platforms, monitoring software, and advanced analytics. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with multiple irrigation control system platforms and understands both hydraulic performance and software configuration at an expert level.

This position has potential to be in-office, hybrid or fully remote & will include occasional travel.

Technical Leadership Responsibilities

• Lead remote monitoring and optimization of irrigation systems across multiple regions

• Oversee use of third-party central control platforms and remote irrigation software

• Establish best practices for alarm management, error diagnostics, and remote troubleshooting

• Standardize water management workflows across projects and clients

• Review and approve system audits, evaluations, and water use analyses

• Serve as highest-level technical escalation point for controller and system issues

Irrigation System Expertise

• Configure and manage central control systems (cloud-based and server-based)

• Analyze hydraulic performance, pump stations, filtration, and control logic

• Conduct advanced irrigation evaluations (agricultural, golf, landscape, municipal)

• Perform remote water balance studies and consumption analytics

• Optimize scheduling for plant health, regulatory compliance, and water efficiency

Data & Reporting

• Use sophisticated analytical tools to interpret system data

• Develop professional client-facing reports and executive summaries

• Monitor KPIs such as flow variance, pressure anomalies, runtime optimization, and weather integration

• Lead development of dashboards and performance tracking systems

Client & Team Collaboration

• Deliver professional presentations to clients and stakeholders

• Mentor junior water management engineers and technical consultants

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including engineers, agronomists, landscape architects, and environmental specialists

• Provide technical input into proposals, scope development, and service expansion

Required Experience

• 8+ years of professional irrigation or water management experience

• Demonstrated experience using multiple irrigation controller platforms (Rain Bird, Hunter, Toro, Baseline, WeatherTRAK, or similar)

• Strong understanding of central control architecture, pump stations, filtration systems, flow sensing, hydraulic calculations, and regulatory considerations

• Advanced proficiency with monitoring software platforms, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office/reporting tools

• Experience writing professional reports and technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, agronomy, or related field

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain

• Irrigation Association certifications (CLIA, CIC, CID, Auditor, etc.)

• Experience managing distributed remote teams

• Experience building or scaling a water management program
