Systems Administrator Level 2 in COSTA RICA

Excel Nearshore is looking for a Systems Administrator Level 2 to play a crucial role in ensuring the resiliency, security, and efficiency of a client’s global IT infrastructure, platforms, and cloud environments. Working closely with their global enterprise IT team, you will help safeguard their systems against vulnerabilities and ensure a seamless operational experience for their internal and external stakeholders. This is a fully remote and full-time position from Costa Rica, in payroll with benefits.


You will work with one of the most innovative manufacturers of educational materials in the United States: a thriving multichannel organization which specializes in top-quality products for the home and classroom, with a robust web business, multiple catalogs for early learning and elementary programs, as well as 60+ store locations and a sales force that is second to none. Key Responsibilities

Active Directory & Windows Server Management:

  • Design, deploy, and manage Active Directory infrastructure.
  • Maintain and support AD domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and other related services.
  • Implement and enforce security policies and access controls within Active Directory.
  • Design and manage directory integration with SSO & 3rd party systems.
  • Documenting & knowledge transfer for task execution by other service tiers.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server operating systems, including server roles and features.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues related to Windows Servers.


Microsoft 365 Administration:

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and other related applications.
  • Manage M365 tenant configurations, licensing, and security settings.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot M365 services and resolve issues promptly.
  • Implement and manage data retention, compliance, and eDiscovery policies.
  • Collaborate with end-users to provide training and support for M365 applications.


General System Administrator:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance of IT infrastructure to ensure optimal stability, security, and performance while minimizing disruption to operations.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows servers and systems.
  • Monitor software licensing and maintenance agreements and remediate where necessary.
  • Serve as an escalation point and supporter for Level 1 Technicians on complex issues.
  • Respond to incident escalations, following troubleshooting and recovery procedures and escalating to other teams when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with IT teams across different time zones.
  • Seek out opportunities to document, improve, or automate support and maintenance processes to provide effective and efficient support.
  • Take on and support time-sensitive projects when needed.
  • While on-call, provide off-hours, evening and weekend support to accommodate maintenance windows and break fix actions.


Requirements

  • Computer Information Systems or similar degree, or comparable experience.
  • 5+ years of system administration experience, with at least three years managing Active Directory and M365.
  • Experience with designing, deploying, and managing Active Directory infrastructure.
  • Experience managing hybrid Exchange implementation between on-prem and cloud.
  • Experience managing synchronization between Active Directory and Entra ID.
  • Expert level competency in managing and configuring Exchange, SharePoint, Entra ID, and Teams.
  • Understanding of basic network concepts and flows; ability to utilize traceroute, ping, and troubleshoot network issues.
  • Basic understanding of programming logic / scripting concepts and proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Understanding of or prior experience with managing Microsoft licensing compliance.
  • Experience working with ticketing, monitoring, and alerting tools in managing Information Technology operations.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and make sound judgments in a fast-paced environment.


Desired / Differentiating Qualifications:

  • Experience with migration from on-prem or hybrid Active Directory to pure Entra ID.
  • Demonstrated success with scripting & automation to reduce toil in AD management.
  • Understanding of Microsoft licensing and how different licenses apply features to different products.
  • Experience with administering Microsoft Purview including setting up collections, assigning roles, and integrating data sources; ability to create and enforce data classification, labeling, and access control policies.
