Utopia Design is a young architectural firm founded in 2023, part of a bigger real estate development business. Company's primary objective is to create a family of luxurious and high-end hospitality assets all over the world, delivering unprecedented user experience.

About the role:

Our design office is looking for a part-time low voltage engineering expert to support ongoing design development of several luxury projects in the Caribbean basin. The ideal candidate will have:

  • a degree in electrical engineering, buildings automation or control systems engineering
  • eight years of experience working for a design consultancy or a general contractor
  • specialization in buildings automation and smart home systems
  • hands-on experience with UK/EU BMS and automation standards and systems like KNX, PLC, SCADA and other control technologies

This is a part-time job with expected involvement up to 20 hours a week.

This is a fully remote job with relatively flexible working hours, we expect you to participate in team's coordination meetings at least three time a week.

We work normal London working hours 9-17 or 10-18.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a variety of high-end hospitality projects (both Architecture & Interiors)
  • Run a project through technical and delivery stages (aware of RIBA stages all the way through to practical completion)
  • Prepare and develop drawings and 3d models (axos) to communicate info to manufacturers and team of external consultants
  • Rationalize geometries and provide input in regards to simplifying architecture (in regards to construction) whilst also maintaining the initial design intent.
  • Check team drawings + modify/suggest changes (mark-ups)
  • Produce detailed technical construction information for the project
  • Produce outline specifications documents (materials & material systems)
  • Work within a small project team and manage junior team members
  • Use Revit / AutoCAD daily
  • Report to Project Leads


You will:

Provide support and oversee the design and construction processes for building automation and control systems in heating, cooling, power, water supply, lighting, energy resource monitoring, and smoke control systems.

Translate consolidated architectural, operational and service Employer's requirements into a corporate guideline for BMS and automation.

Monitor the development of schematic and detailed designs, tender documentation, construction, and as-built documentation, ensuring adherence to industry standards and local building codes, as well as internal company requirements.

Requirements

  • Collaborate with Designers, Contractors and Consultants on design-related matters, providing feedback on documentation and overseeing the resolution of any issues
  • Coordinate the integration of various sections of the project, including HVAC, water supply, electrical, architectural, and fire alarm systems into the BMS
  • Participate in design brief preparation alongside with the design manager and MEP manager
  • Provide technical support in interaction with manufacturers and suppliers
  • Confirm and justify decisions made, taking into account the availability of systems and equipment in local markets, conditions of use, and Customer requirements
  • Make an informed choice of systems and equipment
  • Participate in weekly design coordination sessions with local designers
  • Review, comment and approve designer's, contractor's and other third parties design documentation
  • Manage and review production of materials and equipment specifications by third party designer and in-house QS
  • Support Project management team with cost assumptions, budget estimations and market checks
