POSITION SUMMARY:
The Embedded Systems Engineer III, Software will design, develop, and maintain embedded software for 3rd Eye products. This role collaborates closely with software engineering, software quality assurance, and product and project management teams to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions that meet customer and system requirements.
Using sound software engineering principles and defined design practices, you will help ensure our embedded software is safe, robust, and scalable while contributing to the overall technical direction of our products.
We’re growing the 3rd Eye Digital team and are hiring an Embedded Software Engineer III to help build the next generation of connected, modular devices used across industrial and vehicle platforms.
This role is hands-on and close to the hardware. You’ll work on embedded Linux systems that integrate sensors, cameras, and edge intelligence — taking software from concept through production and into the field.
Essential Job Functions:
- Architect and design embedded software solutions to meet customer and system needs
- Develop and deliver embedded software in a timely manner
- Troubleshoot electrical embedded system designs using software and test equipment
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams
- Design solutions based on defined requirements while identifying and challenging potential gaps
- Document technical designs, procedures, and new technologies
- Exert technical influence across teams by sharing deep technical knowledge and experience
- Minimal travel required (less than 10%)
Job Specifications/General Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in embedded software or firmware development across the full product lifecycle
- Experience integrating embedded systems with sensors (IMUs, temperature, pressure, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Embedded Linux
- Strong C/C++ programming skills
- Strong embedded system debugging skills
- Python experience is advantageous
- Experience using electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
- Experience with Agile development practices and continuous delivery
- Experience deploying large-scale commercial software products
- Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD)
- Proficient with version control systems (Git)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills
- Comfortable working with limited supervision and taking initiative
Additional Experience for Special Consideration:
- Experience with digital camera, DVR, monitor, or telematics products
- RTOS experience (e.g., FreeRTOS) and low-level microcontroller development
- Secure firmware updates for IoT devices
- Wireless technologies (LTE, WiFi, BLE)
- CAN protocols (J1939 / OBD-II)
- Hybrid cloud or AWS technologies and Edge Linux environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
