Business Development Manager , you will play a pivotal role to bring in business and funding opportunities from UK and overseas by
- Continually developing new customer base and by expanding the existing customer base for UKAEA’s commercial services, IPs, and expertise.
- Managing the assigned key customer accounts, ensuring their continued engagement with UKAEA.
- Identifying opportunities for overseas fusion companies and adjacent entities to move to the UK.
- Tracking and identifying grant opportunities and managing internal and external stakeholders in order to develop, submit win grant applications.
- Ensuring success of the assigned business division’s plans.
- Maintaining database of high integrity and quality and enabling regular reporting.
Additional Responsibilities:
Business Development
- Identify funding gaps, new accounts in the UK and abroad, and collaboration opportunities through market research and engagement campaigns, aligning with UKAEA's business plans.
- Track fusion related research and innovation funding opportunities from bodies such as UKRI and Horizon. Provide coordination between UKAEA, universities, research institutions and other partners to prepare grant applications, facilitate submission and track progress.
- Lead business development activities, including lead generation, customer meetings, and securing new business, while promoting cross-divisional opportunities.
- Develop techno-commercial proposals, negotiate deals, and manage new opportunities until handover to the technical manager.
- Maintain and report on business development pipeline, grant applications, and strategic assessments, ensuring high-quality data in CRM systems.
Project Support
- Building internal support from technical, project and commercial staff.
- Managing interfaces between customers and other functions within the organisation to provide service to new and existing customers.
- Collaborate with the functional managers, work closely with the key technical leads from the divisions, other managers and technical experts, the commercial team and communications and marketing.
- Represent UKAEA in select events. Collaborate with Communications to produce marketing collaterals.
- Display well developed judgement in times of uncertainty, risk and ambiguity.
- Continue to be delivery focussed, coupled with experience of working to tight/fixed deadlines.
Departmental Business Plan
- Contribute to the annual business plan, working closely with the divisions and the Head of business development.
- Delivery of the business plan targets for commercial revenue.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Significant experience of business development in scientific and engineering research environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication at every stage of the business development life cycle.
- Experience of managing complete business development cycle from initial customer identification, engagement, opportunity identification, and securing scalable, complex, and high-value sales.
- Demonstrated experience in shaping large deals.
- Experience in management of key accounts.
- Ability to prepare persuasive value propositions, presentations, and pitches to secure new business opportunities. Ability to coordinate with internal stakeholders to customise proposals.
- Ability to verify all documentation and maintain records.
- Ability to understand the requirements of a potential customers and the products/services necessary to ensure business success.
- Ability to build and sustain relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in use of CRM.
- Demonstrate customer-focused approach that ensures the employers’ reputation.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in managing grant applications from UKRI or similar funding bodies.
- Experience in developing and managing relationships with public and government bodies.
- International business development experience.
