As an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer develops standards and specifications; participates in short and long range strategic planning; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies, and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies
Compares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution
Approves equipment/material to be used in Toronto Hydro systems, based on test reports/Drawings/Technical data/Quality records
Prepare technical training documents and actively contribute to Standard Practice and Standard Design Practice document creation/update
Acts as a change agent in adoption and continual use of standards across organization in design and construction stages
Prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations
Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices
Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees
May be called upon to act as a team or project leader
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
5+ years of Engineering experience, preferably in the utilities industry
Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
Class “G” Drivers License strongly preferred
Experience in design and specification development of distributed energy resources including battery energy storage systems
Experience in design, specification and analysis of grounding systems
Experience with grid automation and SCADA/DMS systems
Experience in design and specification development of wholesale, residential and commercial metering
Fluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, CADD, engineering records
Experience in the use of engineering application software including CYME

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
