🚀 Backend Engineer (Database / OLAP Focus) — Member of Technical Staff
📍 San Francisco (In‑person) | 💰 $150K–$200K + Equity | 🛂 Visa sponsorship (limited) + H‑1B transfers OK
We’re partnered with a YC-backed company helping enterprise brands win in the shift from traditional search to AI search. Their platform powers monitoring + analytics + an action center that helps teams see what’s changing and take the right actions quickly.
They’re hiring a Backend Engineer with a strong spike in databases + data-intensive systems to own the data foundation and scale core workflows.
- Build core backend platform features that serve enterprise customers and fast-growing tech companies
- Design clean data models and write high-performance SQL for large datasets (millions+ of rows)
- Own data architecture decisions across Postgres + OLAP storage/processing
- Improve latency and reliability through indexing, partitioning, query tuning, and caching strategies
- Build durable business logic for long-running processes (monitoring → detection → action → audit trail) using workflow orchestration (Temporal-style)
- Partner with product/GTMs to translate messy business problems into scalable technical implementations
- Contribute to architectural and tech choices as the system scales
- 2–10 years backend engineering experience with a strong database focus
- Excellent SQL skills and intuition for performance tradeoffs (query plans, indexing, schema design)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
- High agency: you take ownership, move fast, and thrive in ambiguity
- Comfort building robust systems that scale (observability, retries, idempotency, failure modes)
- Experience with OLAP databases (or analytics-heavy data systems)
- Temporal / durable workflow orchestration experience
- Familiarity with marketing tech / CMS / analytics domains
- Comfort collaborating across the stack (TypeScript / Next.js familiarity is a plus)
- Distributed systems knowledge: queues, backpressure, caching, consistency tradeoffs
- Own the data foundation for a product riding a major platform shift (AI search)
- High-impact work with tight feedback loops: performance wins and better workflows are immediately visible
- A role with real architectural ownership in a fast-scaling team
TL;DR: If you love SQL, data architecture, and building durable backend systems that stay fast at scale, this role is for you.
