Role Description

We are looking for a Senior / Lead Java Software Engineer to join a newly formed platform services team building and scaling backend microservices used across multiple enterprise applications. Microservices are the foundation of the platform, and this role will play a key part in architecting, developing, and owning reliable backend services.

The engineer will work closely with product owners, architects, and engineering leadership to decompose features, design services, and deliver production-grade microservices. This is a highly hands-on role with a strong focus on backend development, supported by light frontend exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java 11–based backend microservices
• Build and expose RESTful APIs consumed by internal applications and external dealer systems
• Collaborate with Product Owners to decompose features into technical deliverables
• Work with Engineering Managers on sprint planning, delivery commitments, and timelines
• Own service design with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance
• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
• Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to team members
• Lead by example in engineering best practices and standards
• Take ownership of DevOps processes, including build, deployment, and operational readiness
• Support cloud-based deployments and services on AWS
• Collaborate with distributed teams, including senior and lead engineers across regions

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 11
• Deep experience building RESTful web services and backend systems
• Proven experience in microservices-based architectures
• Strong backend development focus (approximately 70–80% backend)
• Experience working with AWS cloud services
• Solid experience with SQL databases and queries
• Prior experience leading engineers or acting as a technical lead
• Experience owning DevOps responsibilities for the services you build
• Strong understanding of system design and architectural best practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

• Exposure to frontend technologies (approximately 20–30% frontend)
• Experience working on platform or shared services teams
• Background in building services for large-scale enterprise platforms
• Experience supporting dealer-facing or external-facing APIs
