FREELANCE CREATIVE DIRECTOR, HOXBY
Closing date for applications: 21st July 2024
Hoxby focuses on creating an inclusive digital workplace where everyone can thrive. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and all life circumstances. Our primary focus is whether you have the skills and passion for the work we are looking to deliver. These skills may be transferable skills. The specifics of your experience is less relevant to us.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for a passionate freelance Creative Director to lead a team to new heights of creativity and innovation on a project basis.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Anyone working for Hoxby must hold adequate professional insurance. There are more details about this in our Hoxby Insurance Requirements document. You do not need insurance to apply for this opportunity but if you are successful in your application, you will need it before you begin
HOW WE WORK:
At Hoxby, it’s your talent and skills that matter to us most. We care about your circumstances only so that we can help you fit your work around your life. Producing great work is at the heart of what we do and as everyone lives and works differently, we expect everyone who works for Hoxby to define and embody their own individual ‘workstyle’. This means each individual Hoxby chooses when and where they work. The most important thing to us is that you deliver the outputs to the standard we have agreed by an agreed time.
Hoxby is a global community of freelancers. We all work fully remotely, communicating and collaborating on Slack and using Google Suite for our documents and presentations. Asynchronous working is our primary means of working. When synchronous conversations are required, we do this via Google Meet (and occasionally other communication platforms as dictated by our clients such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom). Help is available to support new freelancers joining Hoxby to acclimatise to these platforms.
It is very important to us that people working in Hoxby should be able to fully switch off when they are not working. We encourage everyone to set clear boundaries by turning off notifications and knowing how to turn off email and Slack when you are not working on Hoxby work. We also expect everyone to respect the personal workstyles of others.
Hoxby has a monthly self-billing system in which you submit your time/fee into our internal billing platform at the end of each month. With your approval, we then generate and pay your invoice automatically. We pay all self-billing invoices within 14 days.
How to apply:
To apply please complete this application form with your answers to these three questions:
We anonymise all responses before assessing them. In the form we also ask you for your contact details so we can update you on the progress of your application. We also ask you to state your freelance day rate. If you are not confident in setting a day rate, please provide us with the range in which you expect to earn. Please be sure to take into consideration any cost of living penalties you may face.
If you are considering freelancing for the first time please make sure you are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of this way of working; including the tax and benefits implications. We are unfortunately not able to give advice on these.
If you have any questions about the opportunity please email us at hello@hoxby.com. We also welcome any questions on the application process.
More details about the selection process:
To counteract unconscious bias, we anonymise all applications before reviewing them.
If we read your application and think you are suitable for the opportunity we will contact you. We will ask you whether you would prefer to complete a task or undertake an online interview. If you choose the online interview we will supply the questions in advance. We will ask you to confirm to us any adaptations you would like us to make.
If we do not choose to progress your application we will contact you to let you know. If so, we will provide you with feedback on your application.
We aim to review and respond to all applications within two weeks of the closing date.
If you are successful in securing an opportunity at Hoxby, you will be asked to sign the Hoxby Associate Agreement and provide proof of insurance (see information about this above) before you are onboarded into our Slack community, and given a full handover so you are ready to start delivering the work.
Hoxby & The Workstyle Revolution
Our Founders, Alex and Lizzie, have set up two organisations. The first - Hoxby - is to test workstyle working in practice delivering work for clients. The second - Workstyle Revolution - is to campaign for adoption of workstyle on a wider scale. Both organisations seek to close the employment gaps for groups who are excluded from the workforce. Below is a little more information about Hoxby and the Workstyle Revolution.
