Job Summary

Leeds encourages applications for a writer and editor! This role generates primarily written content that elevates the profile and reputation of Leeds while furthering affinity and engagement among various audiences through a range of diverse channels. As part of their work to position the school as a global leader in business education and research, the writer implements a content marketing strategy that creates compelling communications and helps meet marketing goals. Through cross-functional and interdepartmental collaboration, the writer ensures that messaging aligns with the needs of end-users and target audiences, while also working with the marketing team to share a consistent and cohesive story. Using a variety of official style guides and planning documents, the writer crafts content that adheres to brand messaging, tone, style and personality.

Writing

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Write marketing content and internal/external communications for web, email, social, event and print projects that reflect Leeds’ top messages and promote the school’s brand and content strategy to meet marketing goals.
  • Contribute to a portfolio of ongoing content production including news and magazine articles, newsletters, digital screens/signs, and scripts/talking points.
  • In partnership with the assistant director of content marketing strategy, build and own an editorial calendar to ensure editorial and marketing coverage aligns with the school’s priorities and content strategy.
  • Track newsworthy research and school developments and write supporting news stories; work with other content producers to ensure amplification of content produced.
  • In cooperation with SRC and other CU Boulder departments, identify notable research, news and trends suitable for wider media distribution. Assist with the development of news releases.
  • Serve as a key collaborator for Leeds’ shared news writer with SRC and coordinate editorial plans to ensure coverage and avoid redundancy.
  • Implement standard methodologies, including SEO, across all web content including news articles, web pages and blogs.
  • Recommend photo, video and other graphic elements to support content projects.
  • Partner with teammates to summarize content produced for various channels such as social media and newsletters.
  • Serve as a key contributor for executive communications in support of the Tandean Rustandy Endowed Dean and Leeds’ advancement colleagues.

Editing

  • In collaboration with other writers, including student employees and freelancers/contractors, edits copy to ensure content meets quality expectations and reflects and demonstrates the standards within Leeds’ Content Style Guide.
  • Contribute to the planning, development, and completion of editorial content for the school’s annual magazine, including theme/story development, sourcing, assignment of stories/photography, and repurposing/resharing on digital platforms.
  • Lead editorial planning, development, content creation and review efforts for Leeds’ newsletter portfolio, including student, faculty, staff, alumni and executive/board communications.

Strategy And Project Support

  • In partnership with marketing colleagues, track engagement metrics and use insights from analytics to evaluate the performance of content. Collaborate with assistant director and teammates to optimize content strategy and content production for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the planning and support of unexpected priorities for the Leeds School and marketing team.

What You Should Know

This position offers a hybrid work modality. The work schedule will be Monday-Friday, approximately 8:30 am-4:30 pm with a rare evening or weekend day required.

What We Can Offer

The hiring range for this position is $56,000-$60,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications or related field from accredited institution and 1 year of experience writing and developing content for various channels and audiences, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

What You Will Need

  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit compelling, clear, and accurate content to diverse audiences for general publication; ability to present a professional portfolio of writing samples.
  • Understanding of publication processes - from conception to content development to design, production, printing, and distribution - and ability to think visually relative to written content; ability to enhance and repurpose content for multiple channels.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities for self and others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of marketing and news principles and landscape.
  • Knowledge of current digital marketing tactics, including SEO, email marketing and web analytics.
  • The ability to consistently meet timelines.
  • Ability to collect, appreciate and summarize diverse viewpoints, feedback and constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Internet navigation tools.
  • Proficiency with AP style.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Skilled at working within a creative team, while also working independently with minimal direction when required.
  • Ability to take direction from written or spoken ideas and develop them into effective design and communication solutions.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • 3+ years of experience writing and developing content for various channels and audiences.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with editing content and email communications through Marketing Cloud or similar CRM marketing platform.
  • Experience editing content in online content Management Systems (CMS platforms like Drupal, Wordpress or Joomla).
  • Experience with and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, as well as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
