Software Engineer for AI & ML Applications in GERMANY

We are looking for a Software Engineer for Artificial Intelligence & Machine Leanring Applications to work in our office in Darmstadt, Germany. You will become part of multidisciplinary team supporting our clients in implementing ground segment data analysis and optimisation systems using AI algorithms in the frame of development activities for ESA.

Tasks and activities

You will be working on challenging projects, as one of the key software engineers developing support systems for space applications leveraging AI in fields such as ground segment data processing, operations preparation and automated monitoring and control of spacecraft.

You will have to develop applications which combine and balance traditional software development with latest AI models and systems.

The scope of work will include:

Contribution to the design and development of software systems which include novel AI applications.

Support in the implementation, configuration and usage of AI and ML technology stacks in new and legacy systems.

Acting as a focal point for AI related tasks for all projects which are supported by the team.

Evolution and maintenance of operational support tools.

Contribute to:

Analysis of AI architectures and applications for specific tasks.

Development of AI prototypes to rapidly assess new ideas.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

• University degree in software engineering or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in software engineering including AI applications.
• Good understanding of AI technology stacks
• Hands-on experience in the following:

Software architecture design

Java and Python Development

REST Interfaces Implementation Technologies

Continuous Integration environments using e.g. Maven, Jenkins, Nexus and GIT.

• Understanding of current state-of-the-art of Information Technology, including public and private cloud deployments
• Knowledge of Software modelling languages and tools
• Knowledge of object-oriented and service-oriented design techniques.
• Good communications skills, with very good written and spoken English.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

• Demonstrable experience in applying AI techniques in planning optimisation and solvers.
• Specific space domain knowledge would be a strong advantage.
• Space system engineering and design methodologies.
• ECSS standards.
