Overview
This role supports a new spin-out built from the success of a patent-protected rewards platform originally developed inside a high-growth geolocation app. The technology allows users to earn real-time rewards using their Visa or Mastercard at brick-and-mortar merchants, and it's proven valuable far beyond gaming.
The team is now building a standalone loyalty infrastructure that any app or developer can plug into—bringing real-time cashback and rewards to millions of users across different experiences. It’s a small, senior engineering group that ships quickly, moves intentionally, and prioritizes automation and operational excellence. The platform is preparing for its first major production launch at the end of Q1!
The Role
We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to help us design, build, and scale our Azure-based cloud infrastructure from the ground up. You’ll join our first DevOps hire and work closely with backend engineers to create reliable, secure, and cost-efficient environments that support real-time transaction processing and high-traffic workloads.

What You’ll Do
- Design and own Tesoro’s Azure infrastructure across dev, staging, and production environments.
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform) for repeatable, auditable deployments.
- Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines (primarily GitHub Actions) for our services and applications.
- Partner with engineers to define deployment strategies, environment topology, and release processes.
- Set up and tune monitoring, logging, and alerting to keep our systems healthy and our on-call sane.
- Help design and run ephemeral and preview environments for testing and experimentation.
- Optimize for performance, reliability, and cost as our transaction volume and partner footprint grow.
- Contribute to security best practices around secrets management, access control, and network design.
- Document architectures, runbooks, and decision records so the team can operate and evolve the platform confidently.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years in DevOps / SRE / Platform Engineering roles supporting production systems.
- Strong experience with Azure (Azure App Services, Container Apps, networking, storage, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code – ideally Bicep, Terraform also a plus.
- Deep familiarity with setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc.).
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation and glue work.
- Experience working with relational databases (SQL Server, Postgres, etc.) in a production environment.
- A track record of owning cloud infrastructure end-to-end: design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing tuning.
- Comfort working with small, senior teams where you collaborate directly with founders and engineering leads.
- Strong communication skills—you can diagram, explain tradeoffs, and advocate for good engineering practices without ego.
Nice to Have
- Experience in payments, fintech, or high-volume transactional systems.
- Background in gaming, real-time applications, or consumer-facing products at scale.
- Familiarity with SQL Server Hyperscale or other large-scale database offerings.
- Experience implementing CDNs and edge caching (e.g., Cloudflare) and dealing with latency-sensitive workloads.
- Prior work on ephemeral / on-demand environments and advanced deployment patterns.
