My client is a venture-backed defense start-up building autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to redefine undersea warfare and deterrence. Fresh out of Y Combinator and backed by top national security investors, the team has already launched full-scale vehicles and tested live payloads—proving that small, fast-moving teams can out-innovate traditional defense giants.

A s an Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll own the brain of the vehicle—writing the software that connects every onboard sensor, power unit, and control terminal. This is not a backroom coding role; you’ll see your work deployed in live ocean environments within weeks. It’s a hands-on, mission-critical position where precision meets adrenaline, working side-by-side with the founders and lead engineers to bring a first-of-its-kind platform to life. Expect high ownership, fast iteration, and a team that moves with urgency and purpose—building technology that truly matters.

Outline

  • 4 - 8 years of experience in embedded systems software engineering
  • C/C++/ Rust programming.
  • Developing drivers for complex sensors.
  • Deployed software on resource- limited hardware in ruggedised environments
  • Startup experience/ Fast shipping environments E.g (Tesla, SpaceX, Anduril)

Other skills: Python, Kubernetes, JavaScript

Why candidates should join

  • High-impact mission: Build technology that directly strengthens U.S. defense and deterrence capabilities in the undersea domain.
  • Core ownership: You’ll own the embedded systems layer—the code that literally makes the submarine work.
  • Rapid iteration: See your work deployed and tested in real-world ocean environments within weeks, not quarters.
  • Elite startup environment: Join a small, top-tier team backed by Y Combinator and leading national security investors.
  • Ground-floor opportunity: Shape the architecture, tools, and culture of a company set to scale from dozens to thousands of vehicles.
  • Technical challenge: Work on long-range, resource-limited, autonomous systems—hard engineering problems that few companies even attempt.
  • Leadership trajectory: Strong performers quickly move into technical lead roles as the team expands.
  • Competitive upside: $175K–$225K base + 20% bonus + 0.2–0.6% equity with relocation support.
  • Mission-driven culture: Intense, fast-moving, and built for people who thrive on ownership and purpose—not bureaucracy.
