IT Infrastructure Specialist

The IT Specialist is responsible for the full lifecycle management of the organization's end-user and core infrastructure equipment located on-site. This includes inventory tracking, deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and scheduled replacement of devices. A solid understanding of networking principles and basic firewall concepts is required to effectively manage the connectivity and security of all deployed equipment. The goal is to ensure all staff have functional, up-to-date, and reliable equipment while maintaining network integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Lifecycle Management:

• Manage and maintain an accurate IT Asset Inventory database, tracking location, user assignment, warranty status, and replacement schedules.
• Coordinate and execute the procurement, receipt, and deployment of new hardware, including operating system imaging, software installation, and configuration.
• Develop and manage a regular equipment refresh/replacement plan.
• Ensure secure and compliant disposal or recycling of retired IT assets.

Onsite Support & Maintenance:

• Provide hands-on, high-priority technical support for hardware issues.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all onsite equipment.
• Install, configure, and maintain printers and multi-function devices.
• Manage the physical setup and relocation of IT equipment for new hires, office moves, and departmental changes.

Network & Security Support:

• Troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues from the client side (e.g., DNS, DHCP, static IP assignment).
• Assist the Network team by providing physical access and initial diagnostics for core networking hardware (switches, routers, access points).
• Demonstrate a foundational understanding of how network segmentation and firewalls secure the infrastructure when deploying new devices.

Documentation and Policy:

• Create and maintain clear documentation for hardware configurations and standardized build processes.
• Ensure adherence to organizational security policies regarding equipment use, access, and data security.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 2-4 years of experience in an IT Support or Desktop Support role with a focus on hardware and asset management.

Technical Skills:

• Core IT Fundamentals: Strong, demonstrable understanding of basic IT concepts, including operating systems, file structures, and user account management.
• Proven expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and replacing internal components of computers.
• Networking: Strong knowledge of basic TCP/IP, LAN/WAN concepts, cabling standards (CAT5e/6), and network troubleshooting (ping, tracert, ipconfig).
• Security Awareness: Basic understanding of firewall functions, proxies, VPNs, and the importance of endpoint security.
• Familiarity with asset management tools and inventory best practices.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to lift and move IT equipment up to $40$ lbs.
