Job Title: Security Designer/Engineer (Physical Security Systems & Infrastructure)

Location: Fayetteville, NC (Hybrid)

Duration: Full-Time/Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $100,000 - $110,000 salary ( relocation assistance )


Job Summary:

The Security Designer/Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s physical security infrastructure, including access control systems, CCTV and video analytics, intrusion detection, perimeter protection technologies, and integrated security management platforms. This role ensures that physical security systems are secure, reliable, cyber-resilient, and aligned with organizational policies, compliance requirements, and industry best practices


Key Responsibilities:

• Design and engineer solutions for:

o Access control systems (biometrics, key cards, mobile credentials, intercoms)

o Video surveillance (CCTV), VMS/NVR platforms, and advanced analytics

o Intrusion detection systems and alarm panels

o Perimeter security (fencing, barriers, ground sensors, PIDS)

• Develop security architecture drawings, device layouts, hardware schedules, and cabling plans.

• Prepare technical specifications, scope of work documents, and cost estimates.

• Install, configure, and maintain physical security devices and supporting infrastructure (servers, controllers, PoE switches).

• Ensure all systems meet performance, availability, and cybersecurity requirements.

• Troubleshoot field hardware, networked devices, communication issues, and system integrations.

• Manage firmware updates, patching schedules, and device lifecycle plans.

• Configure access profiles, permissions, roles, time schedules, and door policies.

• Manage biometric enrollment, badge issuance, and identity integrations with directory systems (e.g., AD/Azure AD).

• Implement fail-safe/fail-secure strategies for emergency events.

• Design camera placement and coverage to eliminate blind spots and support operational requirements.

• Manage retention policies, video auditing compliance, and evidence-handling workflows.

• Configure analytics such as motion detection, people/vehicle tracking, LPR, or AI-based event detection.

• Configure alarm zones, partitions, arming/disarming rules, and emergency signals.

• Integrate alarm events with monitoring centers, SOC teams, and automated workflows.

6. Integrated Security Management & Cyber-Physical Integration

• Deploy and manage unified security platforms (e.g., Genetec, LenelS2, Honeywell, Avigilon).

• Integrate physical security systems with IT networks, SIEM solutions, and log monitoring.

• Ensure physical devices follow cybersecurity best practices (segmentation, encryption, access control).

• Manage vendor relationships for managed access control, video surveillance, and remote guarding services.

• Evaluate proposals, validate SLAs, and oversee contractor installations and maintenance.

• Conduct acceptance testing, quality checks, and compliance audits.

• Conduct physical security assessments and vulnerability reviews.

• Ensure designs comply with industry standards (UL 294, NFPA, ISO, NIST, IEC, local codes).

• Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and asset inventories.

• Contribute to security policies and emergency response procedures.


Qualifications:

• 3–7+ years of experience in physical security engineering, system integration, or low-voltage security system design.

• Strong understanding of access control, CCTV, alarms, and perimeter technologies.

• Experience with security management platforms (e.g., Lenel, Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, Salto, Honeywell).

• Proficiency reading and creating technical drawings (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio).

• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE, routing).

• Ability to work with contractors, integrators, and cross-functional teams.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to lift, mount, and test low-voltage equipment when needed.
