Overview

We are seeking a contractor to assist with a critical migration effort, moving workloads from VMware to Citrix XenServer within our Citrix VDI environment. This is a tactical role focused on execution, ensuring virtual desktops and supporting infrastructure are migrated smoothly with minimal downtime or disruption to end users.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on migration of VMs from VMware vSphere into XenServer, with a focus on Citrix VDI workloads.
• Validate and test migrated desktops and supporting infrastructure for performance, stability, and compatibility.
• Coordinate with internal teams to plan and execute migration windows.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during migration, including VDI-specific challenges.
• Document migration processes, configurations, and outcomes.
• Ensure minimal impact to production VDI services during the transition.

Requirements

• Strong experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter).
• Strong experience with Citrix XenServer / Citrix Hypervisor.
• Hands-on experience supporting or migrating Citrix VDI environments (Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops / XenDesktop).
• Proven background in VM migration projects.
• Solid understanding of virtualization networking, storage, and resource allocation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Citrix Cloud or Citrix Director.
• Experience with automation/scripting for migrations (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
• Prior experience in large-scale VDI or data center migrations.
