We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with mandatory Databricks expertise to directly join their growing team and support a robust portfolio of critical client projects.
Role Overview: This is a remote role with occasional onsite travel to client locations in Alberta. Candidates located in Alberta—or those who can travel to Alberta on a regular basis—will be given strong consideration.As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimize advanced data pipelines and data platforms using Databricks, Delta Lake, PySpark, and modern cloud technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and enterprise-ready data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Core Databricks Engineering (Must-Have Expertise)
- Design and Build: Engineer and optimize high-throughput, fault-tolerant data pipelines using Databricks, PySpark, SQL, and Delta Lake.
- Orchestration & Governance: Implement end-to-end data solutions leveraging Delta Live Tables (DLT), Databricks Workflows/Jobs, Repos, and Unity Catalog for robust governance and lineage.
- Best Practices: Apply Databricks and Lakehouse architectural best practices for security, performance tuning, and CI/CD/DevOps integration.
II. Data Architecture & Enterprise Integration
- Cloud ETL/ELT: Design, maintain, and optimize complex ETL/ELT processes utilizing cloud-native services across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Hybrid Integration: Develop secure, end-to-end data integration patterns between Databricks (Cloud) and on-premise enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, RDBMS).
- Data Modeling: Develop efficient and scalable data models for diverse structured and unstructured datasets.
III. Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate closely with BI, Analytics, and Business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into concrete, scalable technical designs.
- Thought Leadership: Actively contribute to developing internal best practices, reusable frameworks, and technical accelerators.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience: 5+ years of professional, hands-on Data Engineering experience.
- Mandatory Databricks: Proven, mandatory experience building and managing data solutions using Databricks in a production environment.
- Lakehouse Stack: Expert-level knowledge of Databricks core technologies: Delta Lake, PySpark, SQL, Lakehouse architecture, and Unity Catalog.
- Cloud Proficiency: Solid experience with one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Technical Depth: Strong expertise in complex SQL, advanced ETL/ELT techniques, and sophisticated data modeling.
- Integration: Hands-on experience integrating Databricks with enterprise systems like SAP and establishing connections to on-premise data sources (e.g., RDBMS) via secure network tunnels.
- Travel & Location: Willingness and ability to travel to Alberta regularly for client engagements.
- Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
- Certifications: Databricks Certified Professional and/or Cloud Certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- DevOps: Experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling.
