The WA Police Force are expanding their Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Division in order to support Operational and Tactical policing to assist with solving crime faster and keeping the WA community safe.
We are looking for enthusiastic and talented individuals to join the WA Police Force in their data journey by being part of the Data Services unit within DSA as

This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 01013). This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities.
There is currently one (1) permanent full time position available.
About The Role
The team is responsible for providing data services for the Data Science and Analytics Division, with the purpose of provisioning data to support the use of statistical and operational information for data science, analysis and reporting. The Data Engineers in Data Services unit use the latest cloud based ETL solutions and high-performance computing to implement large scale data integration and emerging analytical platforms such as Graph data bases.
About You
To be successful in these roles, you will have:
- Knowledge of data engineering or the ability to quickly learn to use new tools
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical and conceptual skills
- The ability to work in a team and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload to meet deadlines
- A qualification in a quantitative subject (such as data science, computer science, engineering or information technology) or professional experience in a relevant field is desirable.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE
It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to become an Australian Citizen prior to appointment.

Applicants are asked to address the following nominated work related requirements in no more than three (3) pages:
- Data engineering skills - Administering security for users and groups. Engineering, monitoring and supporting data pipelines and databases for the purpose of provisioning data to support statistical and operational tools and products for data science, analysis and reporting.
- Analytical skills - Interpreting requests for data and proposing appropriate options and solutions, and/or escalating issues for resolution.
- Organisational skills - Managing own workload and demonstrating flexibility in managing competing priorities. Establishing tasks and timeframes to successfully achieve objectives.
Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Other Conditions
In addition to the above mentioned vacancy, a POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the metropolitan area. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.
Once an applicant from the POOL accepts a permanent position via this selection process, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL and will continue to be considered for permanent opportunities as they arise.
Where an applicant in the POOL declines an opportunity (either permanent or temporary), that applicant may forfeit their right to be considered before other suitable applicants who were identified to be less competitive.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
