Summary of the Job
We are seeking a Head of AI for Research - specialising in Olfactory applications (Food, perfumes etc), to lead an expert team in Formulation Performance Modelling.
This role demands a blend of expert AI/ML knowledge, strategic business expertise, and exceptional communication skills.
This candidate will be working to deliver impactful AI projects across different business applications, which requires an ability to adapt personably to the teams you are working with, to understand and deliver on their needs.
This position is based in Switzerland (ideally), or Netherlands, or Germany with a hybrid work model.
Relocation support and visa assistance for candidates from the USA and other regions.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Lead a cross-functional team of Data Scientists, Engineers, Technicians, and First Line Managers in the area of Formulation Performance Modeling, Algorithm Development, and Training.
- Strategic Direction: Develop and implement AI/ML capabilities to drive business value, aligned with strategic goals.
- Innovation Delivery: Ensure successful delivery of innovation projects, meeting technical, business, and project management KPIs through clear and meaningful consultation with business and project partners.
- Program Development: Plan and support mid- and long-term project innovation programs.
- IP Management: Define and secure intellectual property in alignment with IP strategy.
- Capability Development: Foster business-relevant capabilities focusing on value creation, in collaboration with partnering S&R teams and D&T.
- Competitive Analysis: Map the competitive landscape in Application-Specific Algorithm Development and influence S&R strategy accordingly.
- Strategy Implementation: Contribute to the creation of the S&R Data Science Strategy and oversee its implementation within e-creation & recipe builders.
- Talent Management: Attract, retain, and develop top talent, promoting a culture of safety, care, and integrity.
Qualifications
- Education: PhD or MSc in Data Science or a related field with a focus on AI/ML-driven model development.
- Experience: 10+ years in the Life Sciences industry, with extensive experience in people development and team leadership.
- Strategic Acumen: Proven track record of strategic thinking, business development, and managing cross-functional teams.
- Project Management: Experience leading complex projects that integrate scientific and business acumen.
- Financial Management: OPEX and CAPEX exp.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, humble, manner.
- Holistic Profile: Demonstrated ability to balance technical expertise with leadership skills, emotional intelligence, and cross-functional communication.
