About The Role
We’re looking for an experienced VMware/ESXi Engineer to join our consulting team on a part-time, remote engagement supporting a hybrid cloud infrastructure modernization project. You will assist in optimizing and maintaining their on-prem VxRail-based VMware environment, while aligning it with Azure VMware Solution (AVS) as part of a broader cloud integration strategy.
This is a 4-week, part-time contract (approx. 100 hours total) delivered remotely in partnership with Infinite Ranges.
What You Will Be Doing
- Collaborate with client stakeholders to assess and document the current VMware environment, identifying misconfigurations, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Optimize and validate a vSphere 8 deployment on VxRail, including version alignment with AVS (vSphere 7).
- Lead composite patching and rolling reboot strategies across a 6-node VxRail cluster with minimal downtime.
- Support troubleshooting of vMotion issues and improve cluster concurrency and performance.
- Remediate critical VMware configuration gaps affecting DR readiness and system stability.
- Provide recommendations for AVS upgrade strategies in alignment with Microsoft best practices.
- Maintain updated technical documentation and transfer knowledge to internal client teams throughout the engagement.
- Proven experience with VMware ESXi and vSphere 7/8 in enterprise environments.
- Hands-on knowledge of Dell VxRail systems and integrated deployments.
- Experience performing patching, updates, and rolling reboots in clustered VMware environments.
- Deep understanding of DR planning, vMotion, and hybrid cloud alignment strategies.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders.

- Familiarity with VMware HCX, NSX-T, or VMC SDN concepts (if supporting crossover work)
- Comfortable working independently with distributed teams
