Job Description

Algorithm Engineer (Junior–Medior) ⚙️

🌍 Location: Amsterdam (hybrid) or remote

Contract: Full-time

Company: GreenShift — Amsterdam deep-tech startup optimizing cloud cost & energy at scale

📌 The role — why it exists

Design and optimize core algorithms that drive our products. Prototype fast in Python, profile ruthlessly, and, when it matters, drop to a compiled language for hot paths. You’ll turn ideas into reliable, robust code that can find an optimal solution in any circumstances.

🧠 What you’ll do

  • Build parsers and graph representation of software: think tokenizers, ASTs.
  • Design and implement graph algorithms (e.g., shortest-path, topological sort, connected components).
  • Write production Python and (as needed) C++/Rust/Go for performance-critical paths.
  • Profile CPU/memory/IO (cProfile, line-profiler, memory-profiler) and deliver fast and effective code.
  • Containerize and ship your algorithms as micro-services (Docker, CI), add metrics/logs, own reliability and robustness in prod.
  • Document decisions clearly and review code with empathy.

✅ Must-haves

  • Passion for solving hard problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A MSc in Computer Science or BSc and 2-4 years of similar experience.
  • Strong Python and at least one compiled language (C++ / Rust / Go) skills.
  • Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, complexity, program correctness.
  • Hands-on with profiling & optimization; comfort proving speedups with data.
  • Habits: tests, code review, clear communication.

🌟 Nice-to-haves

  • Postgres/ClickHouse, Redis; Docker/K8s; Prometheus/Grafana.
  • Experience with writing parsers and pre-processors

💚 Compensation & benefits

  • Competitive salary (NL-market aligned) + stock options.
  • Hardware & learning budgets.
  • Relocation budget and visa support to Amsterdam (incl. 30% ruling where eligible).
  • Flexible hours; high ownership, zero bureaucracy.

✉️ How to apply

Email [email protected] with your CV and any relevant links (GitHub/portfolio/technical blog). A brief note about why this role excites you is welcome.

🛠️ Hiring process (fast & respectful)

  1. 20-min intro call.
  2. 60-min technical screen (algorithms, parsing, perf reasoning).
  3. Practical: 90-min pairing or focused take-home (profiling + micro-optimization).
  4. Final values/fit chat (45-min).

GreenShift is an equal-opportunity employer. We value autonomy, clarity, and pragmatic engineering. Ready for the next chapter in your career? Apply.
