The Role: Senior Cloud Architect

As our Cloud Architect, you will design the technological foundation that powers Solution Community’s global platform. You’ll be responsible for defining our cloud strategy, building our architecture from the ground up, and ensuring seamless integration between front-end, back-end, and infrastructure.

This is not a maintenance role — this is your chance to shape something from scratch. You will design systems that are scalable, secure, efficient, and ready to grow with our mission. Working closely with engineers, designers, and product leaders, you will ensure that every layer of our platform — from user interface to data pipeline — works together harmoniously.

Conditions:

• Location: Remote
• Commitment: Part-time (volunteer, pro bono role)
• Contribution Requirements: minimum 10–15 hours a week; minimum 3 months.

What Will You Do?

• Architect the Future. Design and document the complete cloud architecture for our platform — including front-end, back-end, databases, APIs, and integrations.
• Build from Scratch. Define cloud infrastructure and deployment strategies for a new platform using Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Supabase, and Firebase.
• System Integration. Ensure smooth communication and interoperability between components (front-end, back-end, and data layers).
• Security & Scalability. Establish best practices for security, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency across environments.
• Infrastructure as Code. Implement automated provisioning, configuration, and deployment workflows.
• DevOps Collaboration. Work closely with DevOps Engineers to create CI/CD pipelines and automate testing, integration, and deployment.
• Documentation. Create clear, detailed documentation for all architecture components and workflows to ensure team-wide understanding and future scalability.
• Innovation & Strategy. Evaluate new tools and technologies to improve our performance and cost efficiency.

Who Are We Looking For?

• 7+ years of professional experience in cloud architecture, software engineering, or infrastructure design.
• Proven experience designing cloud environments using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS.
• Strong understanding of Supabase, Firebase, and GitHub workflows.
• Proficiency in frontend-backend integration — understanding how architecture decisions affect design, development, and user experience.
• Knowledge of microservices, REST APIs, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong background in security best practices, networking, and identity management.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• Ability to communicate complex systems in clear, practical terms for engineers and non-technical collaborators.
• Collaborative mindset and desire to build something meaningful from the ground up.

Bonus Points For:

• Experience building SaaS or large-scale web platforms.
• Familiarity with nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
• Background in cost optimization and multi-cloud strategy.
