VP of Engineering

We’re looking for a Vice President of Engineering to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the CPTO, you’ll partner closely with Product and Design to shape and deliver an ambitious roadmap. This is a critical moment of growth, innovation, and investment, and you’ll guide our Engineering organization through it—establishing high standards of quality software and team performance. You’ll be a key voice on the leadership team, helping set strategy and shaping the future of our technology, culture, and organization.

Primary Responsibilities And Outcomes

Consistent, High Quality Delivery

  • Reduce system incidents, bugs, and poor releases through strong QA and release discipline.
  • Establish and track quality, velocity, and reliability metrics.
  • Successfully manage migrations with minimal disruption.
  • Remediate security vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with data privacy and regulatory standards.
  • Improve the org’s ability to deliver value iteratively while consistently hitting key commitments.

Healthy, Accountable Engineering Organization

  • Redesign and implement the org structure, roles, and teams within 6 months, within the current budget.
  • Establish clear team and individual performance metrics.
  • Eliminate bottlenecks and reduce cross-team dependencies.
  • Create end-to-end accountability for delivery and quality.
  • Optimize R&D investment decisions (tools, staffing mix, AI, build vs buy).
  • Drive effective AI adoption and demonstrate measurable impact.

Own evolution into an All-in-One PLG platform

  • Define mid- and long-term tech strategy, architecture, and plans aligned with business goals (within 6 months).
  • Collaborate with Product to build a roadmap and execution plans that manage the competing priorities of quality, innovation, tech debt reduction, and security.
  • Consolidate and modernize tech stacks where necessary; integrate systems to support the all-in-one strategy.
  • Diagnose data fragmentation, performance, and scalability issues and implement a plan to address key gaps within 6 months.

Enable Business Results

  • Increase subscription revenue through improving the core CHMS product and PLG motions.
  • Increase giving dollars by growing customers and improving same church giving through effective experimentation.

Qualifications

Experience

A successful candidate will have proven experience:

  • Managing Complexity: Integrating and modernizing multiple tech stacks into a unified customer experience. The VP must assess a fragmented technical landscape, integrate multiple acquired products, and resolve challenges to our infrastructure. They need to analyze complex technical and organizational information and develop actionable plans.
  • Structuring and Managing Effective Teams: Structuring and leading 50+ engineers into cohesive, high-performing teams delivering end-to-end customer & business value.
  • Making Quality Decisions Quickly: Must make timely, high-stakes decisions about technology direction and resource allocation. Ideally, working in a previous PE-backed company.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep technical expertise is non-negotiable. The VP must understand how to leverage emerging technologies (especially AI) for more efficient and effective delivery, evaluate infrastructure, and create a plan to fix integration, quality, and scalability issues.
  • Plans and aligns: Setting and communicating technical direction to all stakeholders. Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Sets engineering objectives to align with broader organizational goals. Breaks down objectives into appropriate projects and milestones with clear business value, and delivers value iteratively.
  • Establishing Accountability: Creating an environment, structure, and process that enables teams and individuals to own and deliver against clear success metrics. People have the authority and responsibility to meet or exceed expectations with progress measured transparently.

Requriements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams of 50+.

Office Requirements:

  • We are a fully distributed team (100% remote) with travel required as necessary to hit expectations.
  • A stable work environment with a designated workspace and access to high-speed internet.
  • US-based and legally able to work full-time in the US. Sponsorships are not available at this time.
