Role Overview

Mercor is seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers to collaborate with a leading AI research lab in developing cutting-edge infrastructure for next-generation machine learning systems. This project involves designing and evaluating realistic mechanical engineering scenarios to help train and improve AI performance in technical and industrial domains.

Ideal candidates will apply their expertise in mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing optimization to create and validate professional-grade workflows that mirror real-world challenges in mechanical engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scenario-based tasks reflecting actual mechanical engineering work in manufacturing and design environments.
• Create realistic cases involving product design, prototyping, component testing, and production process improvement.
• Design problem-solving exercises involving equipment troubleshooting, system analysis, and performance enhancement.
• Review AI-generated responses to engineering-related queries for technical accuracy, clarity, and industry alignment.
• Provide in-depth written feedback to improve AI understanding of engineering workflows and mechanical system design.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Proven experience in product development, mechanical analysis, and design iteration.
• Comfortable using engineering and CAD software, and familiar with manufacturing and prototyping tools.
• Strong written communication skills with attention to detail, grammar, and technical language.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
• Successful completion of a video interview, background check, training, and qualification quiz.

Preferred Qualifications

• 14+ years of total professional experience in mechanical engineering.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in design-for-manufacturing (DFM), lean production, or R&D.
• Familiarity with AI or data-driven design tools is a plus, but not required.
