The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Director of Total Rewards to build and scale our compensation strategy during a critical growth phase. This is a fractional/part-time role (10-20 hours/week) perfect for a seasoned comp expert who wants strategic impact without full-time commitment.
You'll be our internal expert on all things compensation, designing frameworks that help us compete for talent while managing costs responsibly as a high-growth startup.
What You'll Do
Compensation Strategy & Structure
- Design and implement company-wide job architecture and leveling framework
- Conduct market benchmarking across sports, tech, and startup sectors
- Build competitive, equitable salary bands and pay structures
- Create compensation philosophy that balances competitiveness with budget reality
Compensation Cycles & Operations
- Lead biannual compensation review processes (merit increases, promotions, adjustments)
- Design and manage annual bonus programs tied to company and individual performance
- Partner with Finance on compensation budgeting and forecasting
- Ensure pay equity and compliance across all compensation decisions
Long-Term Incentives
- Develop equity/LTIP programs appropriate for our stage and funding
- Create clear equity grant guidelines and refresh policies
- Educate leadership and employees on total rewards packages
Advisory & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as trusted advisor to CEO and leadership on all comp decisions
- Train managers on compensation conversations and decision-making
- Respond to ad-hoc compensation questions and conduct market pricing for new roles
- Support offer negotiations and ensure competitive, equitable offers
What You Bring
Required
- 10+ years in compensation, with at least 5-6 years leading total rewards strategy
- Proven experience building compensation programs from scratch or through hypergrowth
- Deep expertise in job leveling, market pricing, and benchmarking methodologies
- Strong analytical skills with Excel/Google Sheets (modeling, data analysis)
- Experience with compensation surveys and market data sources
- Track record managing merit cycles, bonus programs, and equity administration
- Excellent communication skills - can explain complex comp concepts to non-experts
- Startup or high-growth company experience strongly preferred

- CECP, CCP, or other compensation certifications
- Prior fractional or consulting experience
